WELCOME TO SOIL EROSION & SEDIMENTATION CONTROL
INGHAM COUNTY ENFORCING AGENCY

Thank you for doing your part to maintain the health and beauty of Ingham County waters! Sediment is the greatest pollutant by volume impacting our lakes, streams and wetlands. Sediment is the product of uncontrolled erosion. Erosion and sedimentation result in: loss of fertile topsoil, filling of lakes and streams, increased flooding, damage to plant and animal life, and structural damage to buildings and roads.

The State of Michigan enacted legislation (Part 91 of Public Act 451 of 1994) to minimize soil erosion and sedimentation, and delegated enforcement to Counties, except where there is a municipal enforcing agency. Either the County Enforcing Agency or the Municipal Enforcing Agency has the authority to issue soil erosion and sedimentation pollution control permits for earth change activities within their jurisdiction.

Ingham County Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) Program strives to protect waterways by assuring the appropriate design and execution of soil erosion and sedimentation control measures during earth moving activities within our jurisdiction. Your cooperation by maintaining good soil erosion and sedimentation control for you earth disturbances will be an important part in achieving the goal of clean water here in Ingham Count and the State of Michigan.
